Week of December 15-19

Almost winter break! You can make it 5 more days!!

MONDAY:
7th: Today we will work on your independent projects. Come to class ready to talk about the 5 questions that you brainstormed for homework last week. Also, don't forget that your lab report is due on FRIDAY 12/19! Here is a template for you to format your report (also check your baking soda lab report). Remember, your report MUST INCLUDE a HISTOGRAM and a DIAGRAM of the lab.  CLICK THE LINK TO THE RIGHT TO GET THE DATA AND HISTOGRAMS TO COPY INTO YOUR LAB REPORT!

TUESDAY:

7th: Pendulum lab.  Today we learned about GoogleDocs.  You will be receiving a log in for this page before the break.  We will make a plan to brainstorm via "the tubes" while you are away. Also, I have posted a LINK to the RIGHT of the page with all of the data and histograms you need to paste into your lab report!  Remember, your lab report is DUE ON FRIDAY.  If you need to test out emailing it to me, DO IT NOW!!  rpojednic@thayer.org

HOMEWORK:  Write down a question that you can answer with an experiment in order to help your team discover the law of the pendulum.

8th: Today we went over bone structure.  Look over your notes and diagram tonight!
HOMEWORK: Bring in a chicken bone if you have access to one at home.  Read and outline pp. 11-14 (Joints).

WEDNESDAY:

8th: Chicken bone lab.

THURSDAY:

7th: Bring in your question to help discover the law of the pendulum.  Also, your lab report is DUE TOMORROW.  If you need to email it to me, do it TODAY!

8th: Finish Chicken bone lab.
QUIZ: Quick quiz on bone structure and bone identification.

FRIDAY:

7th: If all tasks are completed from the week - Holiday Fun!

8th: If all tasks are completed from the week - Holiday Fun! Remember, we will test for the skeletal system on the Wednesday of our return. Here is a study guide!

Week of December 8-12

Hey Guys!

Here is the scoop for the week:

MONDAY:

7th:  Today we went over the change in Mass of Salt when you dissolve it in water.  We will look at the data further at the end of the week.  Here's something to think about:  The bottle was sealed the whole time after you added the salt!

TUESDAY:

7th:  Today in our double I introduced the Independent Project (IP).  Remember, the project must use an experiment to ANSWER A QUESTION!!  Mentos in Coke is really cool, but it only makes a mess.  You must be able to collect data and prove or disprove a hypothesis.  We also heated Copper (Cu) and Sulfur (S) mixture in a sealed test tube (TT) to see if the mass changed. Again, consider the idea that the TT was sealed the whole time during the experiment!  We will examine this data later in the week and compare it to Monday's lab.
HOMEWORK: Come up with 5 questions that you might like to examine for your IP.

8th: Whoa!  A whole new chapter on the Skeletal System.  Today we talked about:  Functions of the SS, Body Orientation, and Types of Bones.
HOMEWORK:  Color both sides of the handout.

WEDNESDAY:

8th:  Today we went over all of the bones of the axial skeleton:  skull, vertebrae, ribs/sternum, and pelvic girdle.  Go over this information for the quiz on Friday!

THURSDAY:

7th:  We will go over the data from the labs on Monday and Tuesday.  Can you make a hypothesis on what we will discover?
HOMEWORK:  Study for quiz!

8th:  We continued to look at the bones of the body.  Today we examined the appendicular skeleton - legs, arms and shoulders.
HOMEWORK:  Study for quiz! Article on bones due.

FRIDAY:

7th:  QUIZ on Histograms and the Data/Conclusions of the two labs from this week.

8th: QUIZ on SS Function, Body Orientation and Major Bones of the body

WEEK OF DECEMBER 1-5

Hi Guys!  Here is the scoop for the week:
MONDAY
7th Grade:  Today we went over the reproducibility ("wiggle room") of our three balances.  We discovered that the order of reproducibility is:  TL (best), EAB, and then TBB (worst).  We finished class deciding that the reproducibility of
the EAB is +/- 0.03 grams.  This means that you can have a range of 0.03 above or below your measurement before you are actually demonstrating a true change in mass.  You will see how this works when we do the next lab:  melting ice.  Here is the data from our class and the other 7th grade classes:

TUESDAY

7th Grade:  We completed the melting ice lab.  Your job was to discover the DELTA mass of the ice and the melted liquid.  In order to calculate DELTA mass, subtract the mass of the liquid and bottle from the mass of the ice and bottle.  If you have a positive number, you have shown an addition of mass. If you show a negative number, you have seen a decrease in mass.  However, make sure you have seen a change OUTSIDE of your reproducibility (or wiggle room) which is 0.03g.  If you are within your wiggle room, you have shown NO CHANGE!!

HOMEWORK:  Complete a chart of all 14 measurements the class has taken.

8th Grade:  Sunburns and TEST REVIEW.  Here is your review sheet for the test on Th/Fri.  Click on it to make it big!  Go study!!!

WEDNESDAY

8th Grade:  We will be finishing up the Integumentary System and reviewing for test.

THURSDAY

7th Grade:  We will be finishing up melting ice lab and entering data.

8th Grade:  Part I of Integumentary System Test.

FRIDAY

7th Grade:  We will be starting Histograms.

8th Grade:  Part II of Integumentary System Test.
